Dear Why Team member,
I hope this week’s message finds you well and open to contemplation.
Recently, I heard a guru on Instagram share an insight that keeps arising in my consciousness - to serve me in a most powerful way.
To paraphrase the Guru’s message, he reminds us to reflect on the fact that we were born with nothing, and we will leave with nothing. That there is no container for us to take anything with us when we die. Therefore, every-thing during our life is additive to no-thing.
“Everything is Additive!”
I often speak and write on the importance of practicing gratitude.
It is very easy for us to take for granted all the blessings in our life - including our being alive itself.
I once read that one cannot be both depressed and grateful at the same time. So, it begs the question, do we have an epidemic of depression or more-so an epidemic of ingratitude?
The reminder that we are born naked with absolutely nothing - and will eventually find equality with all when we are nothing but bones in a box - can remind us that absolutely everything is additive to nothing.
Are you grateful for what has been added to your life above and beyond nothing? This insight can help fuel gratitude for the smallest things in life. Feeling the breeze or the sun on your face: additive, enjoying the view in front of you: additive, hearing music and enjoying food: additive - and remembering it has all come to pass, as explored in last week’s blog, can bring great gratitude for what has been added to nothing at this very moment.
The only true get-rich-quick scheme is Gratitude. All the money in the world without gratitude, can give one the experience of poverty. But it is those with great gratitude for what has been added above nothing that are the truly rich among us.
How many times have we heard of or read about terminally ill people who decided to appreciate every day of the few days they were “given” by the doctor, and being engulfed in the spirit of gratitude, they got cured or lived way beyond the predicted timeframe? Even as an ill person, shifting focus to all the little additives, the countless blessings that are given, can help free them of so much baggage to truly enjoy the Present. Some of you may remember me talking about my mom being in outpatient hospice for two years before passing being an incredible example of fortitude and gratitude.
What is the point of “much” if we are living a spirit of “lack”?
Awakening to all that has been added to this very moment, can bring a great feeling of abundance. Feeling rich in our experience of life is true wealth.
I hope this insight that all is additive will keep arising in your mind as it has been doing for me since I heard it.
Yes, absolutely everything has come to pass - a beautiful contemplation.
To worry less, the passing of what has been added to nothing is to enjoy even more the arriving of what has been added to nothing.
Experiencing NOW, alone, is additive.
For even the experience of NOW will come to pass.
Here is to us living more often than ever our BEST NOW EVER!!
Make it a great week!
