Dear Why Team member,
Great Day to you!
It’s always better, in anything we do, to start with something positive, with something good; but could it be better to start with something Great?

Why do we say Good Morning and not Great Morning? A few years ago I upgraded my Good to Great.

Why?
Because I took time to think about it, to reflect on how it made me feel and how it made others feel.
Hmm, took time to think...
Took time from where?
Took time from habit?
Consider how much of our days are lost in habitual unconscious thinking. How much time in a day do we not consciously think, but rather unconsciously habit? Wordsworth said, "Habits rule the unreflecting herd." And don’t get me wrong, as long as they are great habits like brushing your teeth twice a day, there’s nothing wrong with habits ruling. But do you, via more conscious thinking, rule your life or do your unconscious habits rule your life? How might we gain more consciousness, more rule over our own lives?

Try observing even your simplest of habitual interactions with others. Consider how many of your casual interactions and comments lack real thought. Such as: "How are you?" "I'm fine, how are you?"
"Good morning," "Good morning."
"Great morning!" "What?" "Why?"
"Because I really wish you more than a good morning, I wish you a great morning."
Now you're thinking! 😄 It’s been really interesting to see the reactions of my children, of the store clerk, the people I serve in my line of work.
Great morning was like a little bump in the road that far from being a disruption, brings more awareness to the road ahead and surroundings.

Are not great mornings more likely to produce great days? Why settle for good when you can have great?
In his book Good to Great Jim Collins said that good is a kind of curse, if all you do is what you are good at, you can never become great.
Is good, good enough?  Apparently not, if you want to be great.

Live more intentionally, more consciously. Begin each new day with a great morning, wishing others the same, and see if it doesn't begin to lift you and others to new heights.

This week, more mindfully, more intentionally, wish others a great morning, and no doubt you will be more likely to make it a great week.
