Dear Why Team member,
I hope this week’s message finds you well and encouraged.
Following up on last week’s message of intentionally choosing your state of being, this week we explore why it is so important to Fire Up - at least once in a while.
The simple and obvious answer is to Blast Off!
There is an outstanding book, recommended to me by a good friend a number of years ago: Blast Off! The Surefire Success Plan to Launch Your Dreams Into Reality by Allison Maslan, that leverages the classic countdown to rocket launch to get ourselves up and moving. The author knows all too well, as a human would, how we can get stuck in resistance and thus she developed the countdown to get her up and moving. So powerful is the technique in her life she ends up writing and publishing a book all about it.
What tools and techniques do you use to get yourself moving- to get yourself fired up to blast off? I firmly believe that some of us are uniquely designed to get fired up so as to fire others up; excitement spreads like wildfire.
Even our longevity is determined by how consistently we fire up because being fired up typically leads to motivation to do something and people who move and are active, people who continue to pursue their passions in late age, live longer, happier lives. It’s like a classic sports car, if it’s not driven regularly, the tires will dry rot and the engine starts to freeze up. Firing up our engine regularly, letting go of our limiting fears and narrow beliefs and hitting top speeds to keep the spark plugs clean is not only an optimal way to live, it’s a heck of a lot more fun when you feel awesome.
The moments I feel most fired up are immediately after my personal trainer has kicked my butt or during and after a speech doing my best to fire others up. I have other highlights in my life, but those are the most consistent for me.
How do you tap into your natural supply for life’s ultimate high?
Dopamine, serotonin are naturally there waiting for us to light the fuse.
So as to live our BEST DAY EVER.
Any and every aspiration and adversity is best addressed when you are feeling your best.
Feeling sad and depressed?
Notice your choices - these feelings rarely get better when we indulge in unhealthy food, stay up late lacking more sleep and stop exercising the body - which is screaming to get out of the house and get moving.
The admonition to “get a life” is all about getting up, firing up and blasting off - with purpose and meaning.
One of the great lessons I have learned is how self-care is the first act of care for others. Not only the responsibility to set a good example, but to develop our own abilities to respond to the challenges and opportunities that come into every life.
The story of Noah’s Ark may be less about the boat and more a metaphor to all of us asking what we are doing right now in preparation for the inevitable storms that will come.
That our future depends on us, each individually answering the call to build and fortify ourselves for self and others, is implied. We were given free will to act, act upon us and act upon others. Using kindness and positivity in all our interactions will surely take us to new heights.
Fortunately, I have been blessed with three amazing children who are all I need to go through fire and run through mountains. I believe that firing up and blasting up into new horizons opens doors of opportunity for them - if my dad can do it, I can do it.
Be the model, help others believe in their capabilities; living your life moment by moment, physically getting older, but spiritually, emotionally, and behaviorally growing younger, filled with vitality. I can feel my clock turning backward especially after a challenging climb upward; be it on a mountain or in the gym.
Reflect on those moments in your life when you feel most fired up - not from an external substance, but from tapping into your internal supply.
How did you open the lock, what keys provide entry to the armory that fires you up within and blasts you off to a higher spirit of excitement and love of life?
It’s not just fun, it’s a responsibility to get it done!
Partner with others to open that internal store house of awesomeness: coaches, trainers.
Together we’re better.
Waste no time living your lifetime optimally; live the NOW, the only time you are alive.
For everything you care about:
Count down, Fire Up and Blast Off into your BEST LIFE EVER!!
Make it a great week!
