Why Go Deeper

Dear Why Team member,

I hope this week’s message finds you growing and experiencing this year in a new and empowering light.

My good friend and coach Dr. Roger Hall often speaks to the importance of acknowledging and  learning our pre-suppositions, what we pre-suppose about the world and our experiences.

Our world view colors all that we experience.

We don’t see things as they are, we see things as we are.  - Anais Nin
How much of our understanding begins with a pre-supposition that to us is undeniable.  Why undeniable? Because it is what we have established as foundational to our understanding.

But if that foundation is built more on sand than rock, we can find ourselves feeling unsteady, overly protective and fearful that what we took as fact might not be true.  So this begs the question - how much of our view is tainted by what we assume is true?

Was that “true” instilled in us by our parents or is it something we built through our own experiences?

A tool that I use regularly in my life is to take an insight that I feel will adjust and strengthen my world view and write it into an epigram, and even try to make it rhyme - to elevate recall.

In other words, I seek to adjust and improve my world view to sometimes change my pre-suppositions, through repetition of insights that reorient me to see better.

I’ll share two with you that I leverage every day.  The first is to proclaim and to remind myself that today is the BEST DAY EVER!!  Now, to achieve this, it cannot be codependent on circumstances, because we all know circumstances like sunshine can have us believe that a sunny day is better than say a cloudy day.  But this is where the pre-supposition is exposed and can be changed.

Codependency was defined for me years ago by Dr. Curt Spear - another incredible teacher in my life - he said codependency is when you depend on an external state to achieve an internal state.

Sit on that insight for a while and notice how co-dependent we have all become.  So this is where I hack my system with the daily reminder that today is my best non-codependent day ever!

Why?

Because I cannot live in yesterday and I cannot live in tomorrow - the day I am alive, TODAY, is always better than the day I am not.  So by definition, TODAY, is my BEST DAY EVER!!

Going deeper to adjust my pre-supposition, my world view, with the powerful non-codependent insight that today is my BEST DAY EVER manifests the experience.

Here is another daily Rocket Fuel thought discipline that takes my life experience to new heights:

I remember the moment the insight came to me and how it immediately blew my mind bringing me to tears.

It is my wish to change the common presupposition most people carry - that peace is not here, but over there… requiring more effort on our part to get there.

To construct my new presupposition,

I endeavor to reflect on this thought daily:

Nothing in time can bring timeless peace - it is ever present.

If this line doesn’t blow your mind, sit on it until it does.

Here is an understanding about peace that has been defined as beyond understanding.

Consider how timeless peace is outside time, in other words it is ever present.  Anything you think will bring you peace “in time”, by definition is not “timeless”.  Timeless peace is ever present and we miss it most because our human presupposition is that it exists “in time”.  And therefore, if we don’t go deeper to shift our pre-supposition, we will go our entire lives looking for what has always been ever-present.

Where is the best place to hide anything?  Right in front of our face.  Because we presuppose that what we’re looking for is somewhere on the shelf in the back, we don’t see it right in front of us.

Today is our BEST DAY EVER, filled with a TIMELESS PEACE, beyond understanding that is EVER PRESENT!

Go deeper, adjust what you pre-suppose about life and you’ll make it a great week!
