Dear Why Team member,
Welcome to...

2019: Your Best Year Ever!

Your formula for Outstanding Results:

Thinking => Feeling => Action => Results
Why is this awareness so important?

It all begins with our thinking; improve our thinking, and we will ultimately improve every area of our life.
To build our buildings higher, we go deeper with our foundations; digging into our minds more than ever, exploring the origins of our thoughts.

Our thinking drives our feelings, and our feelings drive our actions.
Proctor and Gamble learned this earlier than most, realizing it was much less about the actual product and much more about the marketing of it. Run enough commercials to produce a feeling and that feeling will drive the action of purchasing whatever is being sold. Our consumer economy is built on “less-than” thinking and is driven by feelings produced by advertising. Advertising often focused on conveying that we are “less-than”, but could be “more-than”, with what’s being sold. The overt message of all marketing is “buy what I’m selling”, the convert message is “you’re not enough”, but you could be, for example, with a new Lexus. We already have a natural propensity to consume, to improve our position in life, it’s just fueled all-the-more by the consumer marketing in which we are exposed. I bring this to your attention for primarily two reasons: one, is to reduce your susceptibility and two, to share how this awareness can be leveraged for your personal and professional transformation.

Hopefully, you made at least one New Year’s Resolution for 2019. If not, consider stopping right now to write one down......

Did you? If not, Why not?

One of the reasons so many of us fail to adhere to our New Year’s Resolutions is that some are more action focused and less thinking focused. When we focus on changing an action, without changing the thinking that precedes the action, our new action will be incongruent with our thoughts and no new action can be sustained for long with the same old thinking; even though we may have good intentions, the new action will be a short-lived action. Whatever resolution(s) you have made for 2019, consider how you may change your thinking to empower their fruition. The older we get, the more habitual we become, the more comfortable we feel with our “old way of thinking and doing things”; most times, a new beginning doesn’t come easy unless we’re in the right mind-frame, and, the brain has to be exercised just like any other muscle in our body.

In one the greatest books ever written: “As A Man Thinketh”, author James Allen says, “Men are in want to change their circumstances, but are not willing to change themselves, therefore they remain bound”.

Just last week I wrote on the fear of the truth - how we can remain bound - unknowingly protecting lies we might believe - and suggesting we invite challenges and struggles to break our old chains of limited thinking.
Why? Well, to set us free of course.

Truth is and will remain, only that which is not true must be protected as the truth will find a way, eventually, to expose the lies.

The new key necessary to unlock your best new year ever will be found in new thinking. Not new action, not new feeling, but new thinking that proceeds feeling, action and results.

This quote from Einstein cannot be heard often enough: “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking that caused them”.
If we think what we have always thought, we will get what we have always got.

So what transformative actions can we take, focused more on changing our thinking than changing our results? Consider leveraging this acronym in 2019:

RTP

To Reap The Possibilities, consider paying more attention to Reading, Thinking and Partnering!

Your attention is your most valuable currency. Consider more than ever where you are PAYING ATTENTION.
How is that which you are paying attention serving you?

READ differently in 2019 - we become what we think about and being more intentional with our reading - and listening (Audible Books are Rocket Fuel) will drive new thinking.
Expand your reading/listening to include new books on diet, sleep, exercise, and history.

THINK differently in 2019 - reading new books certainly fuels this, but also develop a mindfulness practice. Observe your habits of thought like you never have before. Download the Headspace app for simple steps to incorporate even just 10 minutes a day of thoughtful observation. You think, but you are not your thoughts. Notice your thoughts, consider their origins and let go of those that limit.

PARTNER differently in 2019 - there is a saying that we are the sum-total of the top five people in which we associate. You don’t need to put a lid on a barrel of crabs, as one starts to crawl out, the others pull it down. Who is in your barrel? Are you lifting others out or dragging them back down? Get some new blood into your life to better fuel your Best Year Ever. Get over the uncomfortable feeling of reaching out to someone you admire but don’t know that well. Some of us are afraid to approach people they admire and respect for fear of having nothing to offer the conversation. Do a little research before sparking a conversation, find a common ground and you may be surprised by the relationship you can develop.

Consider a life plan that breaks all this down - rebuild and refuel your life - because it all begins today! And, as Earl Nightingale, recommends in all his talks, once you have a goal, WRITE IT DOWN on a flash-card, put it on your bathroom mirror so you can see it often. If you’re more inclined to use technology, set a daily alarm on your phone that will help you think about your goal. Remember, Thinking will fuel Feelings which will inspire Actions that will generate Results.

The past is in the past, and the future is more than you can imagine.
Make each day your best and marvel at where life takes you.

Happy New Year!
